Gallery 1

This week's lesson was working with negative space - a tough task to be able to create an image of something without drawing it.
Starting with a few exercises to hone visual dexterity.
Then on to the use of viewers to assist in drawing negative spaces to reveal a 3D object.

THERE IS NO STOOL

Both groups did incredibly well and despite frustration just did not give up. Brilliant!
The two groups have now been working to improve their drawing for 3 weeks with absolutely amazing results compared to their initial pre-instruction drawings
All down to their persistence and hard work. Well Done all of you. I am really proud of you so here is your first gallery.

  1. Just been having fun trying to guess whose foot is whose and seeing if Nigel could guess which was mine. Maybe I'm developing a foot fetish. Had fun doing this exercise, maybe
because it gave me a chance to put my feet up!

'I wanted to say that it's hard to believe that your students are absolute beginners! Their drawings look very sophisticated to the untrained eye. As someone who can't draw......'

'The blog is very good and I must say, you do the work with your heart, and that is so important. And your students are able to draw - one can see it.
I wish you all the best - parabens!'

  6. Great work by all the pupils... feet are though things to draw (all those toes!) but they are fun. About negative space... one way I learned a lot about negative space is trying to draw the shadow of something (anything) cast on a flat concrete floor. You might pose the subject, depending on the light, as to cast a shadow with minimal distortion.

    1. Thank you for your comment Diego and the shadow idea! Might offer that as a challenge for one of the future classes :)
